J. Rana, DVM, MVSc
Practice Owner and Veterinarian
Dr. Rana graduated from the Veterinary College in 1989 and he completed his Masters in Veterinary Pathology in 1991. He worked in the Veterinary College in teaching and research positions for 3 years before he decided to work in a private veterinary practice. In 1997, he completed his clinical internship at prestigious Purdue University in the U.S.A. and then moved back to beautiful British Columbia. He worked for some time at Granville Island Veterinary Hospital and Vetcetera Pet Hospital in Vancouver before moving to Lansdowne Animal Hospital in October 1998. He has owned this practice since 2000.
Dr. Rana loves all kind of pets. Actually, Dr. Rana decided to become a veterinarian in high school when he saw his own dog being treated by a veterinarian at a teaching veterinary hospital. Although he lost his dog at that time due to a serious illness (Parvovirus), he decided to save many others by becoming a veterinarian. He has a special interest in soft tissue surgery, dermatology and clinical pathology.
His hobbies are sports, listening to music and travelling. In his spare time, he also likes reading veterinary journal articles to keep himself up to date with the latest developments in veterinary medicine.

Veterinary Technician Assistant
After finishing her Bachelor’s degree and working at another veterinary hospital for some time, Fion joined the Lansdowne Animal Hospital team as a full-time veterinary technician assistant in 2018. Under the mentorship of Dr Rana, Fion is currently in the 2nd year of her distance education Diploma for becoming a Registered Veterinary Technologist through prestigious Thompson Rivers University (Kamloops). She has been a great asset to our hospital. She has always been interested in the animal health field, which is sparked by her love for all furry critters, large and small. Growing up with hamsters established a soft spot for rodents in her heart. Apart from working tirelessly at Lansdowne Animal Hospital, she volunteers with a wide variety of animals, reaching out in any way she can. In her spare time, Fion enjoys reading.
Veterinary Technician Assistant
Ali started working with us in the spring of 2019. She graduated from the Veterinary Technician Assistant Program at Granville College in late 2018. Growing up Ali owned 4 cats and a dog. She has always had the ambition to work with animals and is now excited to be in a field so rewarding. Ali enjoys working with the team to bring the best care to the patients as well as compassion and understanding to the clientele. She looks forward to seeing where the future will take her in her career.
Marjan joined our team at Lansdowne Animal Hospital in spring of 2021. She received her Master’s degree in Animal Husbandry in Iran. She received her MBA degree in Vancouver wanting to be a businesswoman. However, she could not ignore her feeling for animals as her biggest dream was to make an animal shelter in her home country to help stray dogs and cats who are in urgent need of help. In Iran, she owned a dog name Gypsy who is a 12 year old terrier. She loves both people and animals and enjoys helping them. She is kind and compassionate person and try her best to help the Lansdowne team as much as she can. She is also very fond of birds. Marjan plans to further her education in the animal field and become a veterinary technician in the future.
"Dragon" - Our Cat Angel in Kitty Heaven (1997-2017)
Dragon was a 20.5 years old very handsome cat. Dragon had been with us since 1998. He was a rescue cat through Richmond Homeless Cats Shelter (presently known as Richmond Animal Protection Society). He was a celebrity in his own right. Clients often stopped by just to be greeted and Dragon never disappointed his adoring fans! Sadly, we had to say goodbye to him in summer of 2017 after a long, happy life. He was the best cat ever. He will be always remembered and will remain a part of our hospital.
